Dr. Bassam Salama
General Practitioner
Dr Bassam Hamed Salama is a licensed General Practitioner with over thirty years of experience in primary healthcare across Qatar, the Gulf region, and international settings. He practices strictly within the scope of General Practice as defined by the Qatar Ministry of Public Health, providing evidence-based family medicine care with a strong focus on prevention, continuity, and long-term health follow-up.
His clinical practice includes the management of common primary care conditions such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, asthma, thyroid disorders, anaemia, and other chronic non-communicable diseases. He also provides preventive healthcare services including vaccination counselling, cardiovascular risk assessment, lifestyle guidance, and age-appropriate screening discussions, in accordance with national and international clinical guidelines.
Dr Bassam has developed extensive experience in the assessment and management of iron deficiency anaemia, including cases that are recurrent, poorly responsive, or intolerant to standard oral therapy. Within his role as a General Practitioner, he applies a structured approach that includes identifying underlying causes, monitoring response to treatment, and individualizing iron replacement strategies. Depending on clinical indication and patient tolerance, management may involve different iron formulations such as oral preparations, alternative delivery methods, or referral for intravenous iron therapy when appropriate. Treatment plans are tailored to patient preference, tolerability, and safety, with careful follow-up to ensure effective correction and long-term maintenance.
In addition, Dr Bassam has developed broad experience in the medical management of metabolic disorders affecting body weight and body composition, including overweight and obesity. He supports adult patients through structured lifestyle modification, therapeutic dietary counselling, and individualized weight-management plans aimed at improving metabolic health and reducing long-term disease risk. Where clinically appropriate and in line with approved indications, he provides medical counselling and monitoring for pharmacological weight-management therapies as part of a comprehensive and supervised care plan. His approach emphasizes patient safety, realistic goals, and sustainable health outcomes rather than short-term results.
As part of his General Practice role, Dr Bassam also provides general medical care for women before, during, and after pregnancy. His focus is on medical assessment, chronic disease management, medication safety, and preventive counselling, while all specialist obstetric and gynaecologic care is delivered exclusively by licensed OB GYN specialists. He works closely within a multidisciplinary team at Wise Medical Center to ensure coordinated care and timely referral whenever specialist input is required.
Having practiced in diverse healthcare systems, Dr Bassam is experienced in caring for patients from varied cultural, linguistic, and social backgrounds. He is fluent in Arabic, English, and French, supporting clear communication, patient education, and culturally appropriate care within Qatar’s multicultural community.
In addition to clinical practice, Dr Bassam has professional experience in occupational health and public health support roles, including participation in large-scale national projects. This background reinforces his strong commitment to patient safety, clinical governance, and adherence to evidence-based medical standards.
Dr Bassam is dedicated to delivering safe, ethical, and compassionate medical care in full compliance with Qatar Ministry of Public Health regulations. His calm, structured, and patient-centred approach helps ensure that patients feel informed, supported, and confident in the responsible management of their general, metabolic, and nutritional health.
